General Properties:

Flucytosine is an organofluorine compound that is

cytosine that is substituted at position 5 by a fluorine. A prodrug for the antifungal 5-fluorouracil, it is used for the treatment of systemic fungal infections. It has a role as a prodrug. It is an organofluorine compound, a pyrimidone, an aminopyrimidine, a nucleoside analogue and a pyrimidine antifungal drug. It is functionally related to a cytosine.

Flucytosine is an antifungal prescription medicine approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of serious infections caused by certain strains of two types of fungi: Candida and Cryptococcus. For example, flucytosine is used to treat cryptococcosis, which is an infection caused by Cryptococcus fungi.

Cryptococcosis can be an opportunistic infection (OI) of HIV.

A fluorinated cytosine analog that is used as an antifungal agent.
