Drug Class: Anti-Osteoporotic
General Properties:
Zoledronic acid is an imidazole compound having a 2,2-bis(phosphono)-2-hydroxyethane-1-yl substituent at the 1-position. It has a role as a bone density conservation agent. It is a member of imidazoles and a 1,1-bis(phosphonic acid).
Zoledronic acid, or CGP 42’446, is a third generation, nitrogen containing bisphosphonate similar to [ibandronic acid], [minodronic acid], and [risedronic acid]. Zoledronic acid is used to treat and prevent multiple forms of osteoporosis, hypercalcemia of malignancy, multiple myeloma, bone metastases from solid tumors, and Paget’s disease of bone.
Zoledronic acid anhydrous is a Bisphosphonate.
Indication:
This medication is used to treat high blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia) that may occur with cancer. Zoledronic acid is also used with cancer chemotherapy to treat bone problems that may occur with multiple myeloma and other types of cancer (such as breast, lung) that have spread to the bones.
